KIDS EA SPORTS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT | RULES OF PLAY

1. TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE

• Format: Round Robin (each participant plays every other participant in their group)

• Participants: 8 teams (adjust group size as needed) (each team up to 4 players)

• Groups: If there are many participants, divide into groups (e.g., 2 groups of 8)

• Advancement: Top players/teams from each group advance to a playoff bracket (single or double elimination)

2. MATCH RULES

Game Settings:

• Period Length: 3 minutes

• Difficulty: Semi-pro, maybe even Rookie if the kids don’t have any experience playing the game

• Injuries: Off

• Offsides: On

• Icing: On

• Penalties: On

• Fighting: Off (optional)

Team Selection:

• Before the start of the tournament, each team representative will draw a number out of a hat to determine which team they will choose to play with for the entirety of the tournament.

• NO ALL-STAR OR LEGACY TEAMS

• No duplicate teams (e.g. only one team can choose to use Florida Panthers for the whole tournament)

• Home vs Away

• Team captains will play Rock, Paper, Scissors to choose who will be home team prior to start of the game.

3. SCORING SYSTEM

• Win: 2 points

• Loss: 0 points

• Overtime Loss (optional): 1 point

• Tiebreakers:

  • Head-to-head record

  • Goal differential

  • Goals scored

  • Coin toss (if all else is equal)

4. MATCH FORMAT

• Each match: Best-of-1 game

• Schedule: Matches can be played in a set order or flexibly within a time window

5. GENERAL RULES

• Check-in: Players must check in before their first match

• Sportsmanship: Abusive language or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in disqualification

• Only two users can control a team of 5 per side. Teams can swap users during period intermissions

6. REPORTING RESULTS

• Both players must report the match result to the tournament organizer

• Screenshots of the final score are recommended

7. PLAYOFF STAGE (IF APPLICABLE)

• Top 2 or 4 from each group advance to a knockout bracket

• Playoff matches can be Best-of-1 or Best-of-3

8. PRIZES

• FIRST PLACE PRIZE: the first place team will win a tour of the EA Sports Campus in Burnaby for their entire sports team + an EA Sports game code for each participating player.

• SECOND PLACE PRIZE: the second place team will win an EA Sports game code for each participating player.
